The Crafty 3x3 Spring league at MPC concluded this past Monday for the boys 6th and 7th grade division, with an unexpected run on the final day that left the champion spot in doubt until the final game
The day began with Mansfield’s Wyatt Bolduc holding what seemed to be an insurmountable 29 point difference over his closest competitor, but Norton’s Thomas Dimino brought his A game and made a memorable run towards the top spot.
By the time the third game was played, Dimino had cut into the lead, narrowing to less than 20, but it was the pivotal fifth game of the session where the two faced off head to head. Dimino’s team won 15-5, and with the four bonus points awarded to Dimino for the win, he further narrowed the lead by 14 points. The two were separated by only 4 points, and again squared off with new teams to decide the champion. A win by Dimino by even 1 point would crown him the league Champion. But Bolduc decided enough was enough, leading his team with great cuts and finishes to take the final game 15-9, and the championship with 351 total points to Dimino’s 337.
Rounding out the all-star list included Mansfield’s Connor Curtis with 315 points in third, and perennial Crafty All Stars in Norton’s Andrew Freeman (298 points) and Attleboro’s Henry Geysen (276 points) in fourth and fifth respectively. Rounding out the all star list was Manfield’s Sean Higgins, Holliston’s TJ Kiley, Franklin’s Ren Leona, Sharon’s Jaden Segal, Wrentham’s J.D. Anderson, and Franklin’s Ryan Grasso, who started the day in the top 6 but was hobbled by an ankle injury in just the second game of the night.
A number of players qualified for the New England 3x3 championships Elite and Open divisions for the fall. All players showed that they acquired the skills necessary for outstanding read and react offensive basketball.
