The Crafty 3x3 Spring league at MPC concluded with an exciting finish this past Monday for the boys 4th and 5th grade division, with a new champion crowned and 10 all stars named.
The day began with just a 17 point difference between the week four leader and second place contender, with a number of players in position to also make a run to the top spot.
As the day progressed, it became clear that North Attleboro’s Chase Frisoli would establish himself as the player to beat on the day. But Mansfield’s Justin Curtis, and Easton’s Harold Smith were determined to put pressure at the top. As the games continued, it was Smith, who missed one week earlier in the league, that made the most impressive run leading various teams to win after win, earning 4 bonus points for each victory. In the end, however, it was Frasoli (291 points) who pulled away with a couple of late victories to hold off the charge from Curtis (276 points) and Smith (264 points). Smith finished with an impressive 22-2-1 record for the league to easily claim the best winning percentage in this division. Hayden Crowley, who was absent on the day, finished third behind Curtis and just ahead of Smith with 266 points.
Rounding out the all-star list included North Attleboro’s Paul Obuchowski (263 points), Sharon’s Danny Weng (259 points), South Easton’s Jay Balagopalan (252 points), Mansfield’s Cam Peterson (239 points ) Franklin’s Connor Mason (238 points) and North Attleboro’s Zach Robichaud (234 points). Also of note was a strong 12th place finish from Easton’s Kamryn Derba, a 4th grader and the only female in the 50+ player division, who just missed an all-star spot by a few points.
A number of players qualified for the New England 3x3 championships Elite and Open divisions for the fall. All players showed that they acquired the skills necessary for outstanding read and react offensive basketball.
